A man has been charged in connection with a corrosive fluid attack in Ballyphehane on Friday night.
34 year old John Paul Carey, of Dunmanus Crescent in Knocknaheeny in Cork City has been charged with assault causing harm to Francis Costello on Connolly Road on Friday night, contrary to Section 2 of the non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act 1997.
Mr Carey made no response when the charge was put to him at Bridewell Garda Station yesterday.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when Mr Costello opened his front door at 8.22pm and was met by a man who threw a suspected corrosive fluid in his direction.
Two of Mr Costello's brothers were also in the house at the time, with one of them suffering injuries.
The court heard that Francis Costello suffered serious injuries and may lose an eye, while his brother is also in danger of losing his sight,.
Bail was granted to Mr Carey, who was warned by Judge John King not to have any contact with the alleged injured party, his immediate family or witnesses, he is to stay on the north side of the city except for work purposes, he must obey a curfew from 9pm to 6am and must sign on three times a week at Gurranabraher Garda Station, while Judge King also warned Mr Carey that he is forbidden from contacting the alleged injured party, his family or witnesses on social media.
Mr Carey was remanded on bail on his own bond of €700 until May 12th next at Cork District Court for DPP directions.
