Brazilian native Miller Pacheco of room 3 at number 5 Liberty Street, Cork City appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court this evening where he was charged with the murder of his former partner on January 1st.
29 year old Miller Pacheco wore a black jumper, black trousers and black trainers in court and was accompanied by an interpreter. He did not speak during the brief hearing.
Detective Garda Padraig Harrington of the Bridewell Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and said the accused had nothing to say when the charge was put to him via an interpreter.
Defence solicitor Aoife Buttimer requested that Pacheco receive any necessary medical treatment while in custody and said a translator would be required at the next court hearing.
She also said that Pacheco has a job and applied for free legal aid due to his low income.
Judge John King granted free legal aid and remanded Pacheco in custody to Cork Prison to appear before the court again via video link next Monday the 9th of January.
Members of Bruna Fonseca’s family and a friend attended the hearing and were accompanied by a Garda Family Liaison officer.
Emergency services were called to an apartment at Liberty Street in the city at around 6:30 on Sunday morning.
Attempts were made to revive the young woman, however she was pronounced dead at the scene.
