Man in his 20's dies in collision in Bantry

A man has died after a fatal road traffic collision in Bantry.

Gardaí were alerted to the single car collision on the road between Bantry and Ballydehob at 9am yesterday.

The driver, a man in his 20's, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He is the 15th person to die on the roads in Cork this year and the 144th person to die on Irish roads in 2024.

Anyone who was travelling in the area last night or in the early hours of the morning are asked to contact Gardaí.

In a statement to RedFM News Gardaí said:

"Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic incident that occurred on Monday, 21st October 2024 on a road between Bantry and Ballydehob, Co. Cork.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident at 9 am this morning. The collision involved one car. The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was transported to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene and the road remains closed at this time.

Anyone who was traveling between Bantry and Ballydehob during Sunday night or early hours of Monday morning and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) is asked to contact Gardaí.
