Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene shortly after 1pm today.
The incident happened when the man's car left the road and struck a ditch close to Bowen's Cross on the Kinsale road at around lunchtime.
The driver left his car and walked into the path of an oncoming truck.
The driver of the truck was not injured but was treated for shock at the scene.
Gardaí have carried out a full technical exam of the scene and the road has since reopened.
