Man in his 50's dies after he was struck by a van in Glanmire

A man in his 50's has died after he was struck by a van in Glanmire.

Gardaí say the incident happened shortly after 5.15pm yesterday evening at Church Hill.

The Irish Examiner reports the van he had been driving rolled away and struck him when he tried to stop it.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem.

In a statement to RedFM News Gardaí said:

 "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic incident in Glanmire, Cork yesterday evening, Thursday 14th November 2024.

The incident involving a single vehicle occurred at a premises near Church Hill at approximately 5:15pm.

A male in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem examination is due to take place at a later stage.

The scene was preserved to facilitate a technical examination."
