A man in his early 20's has died in a crash near Midleton.
It happened at around 7.25am this morning when his car collided with an articulated lorry.
Gardaí are still at the scene of the crash which happened on the N25 in Ballyedekin.
A car collided with a lorry and the driver of the car, a man in his 20's, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been brought to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.
The road between Midleton and Castlemartyr is closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing who may have been travelling in the area between 7 and 7.45am to contact them.
In a statement to RedFM News, Gardaí said:
Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N25 in the townland of Ballyedekin near Midleton, County Cork this morning, Thursday 11th April 2024 at approximately 7.25am.
The collision involved a car and an articulted lorry. The driver of the car (a male aged in his early 20s) was fatally injured during the collision. His body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Cork Univeristy Hospital.
No other injuries were reported as a result of this collision.
The N25 (Midleton to Castlemartyr road) is currently closed to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who were travelling on the N25 between Midleton and Castlemartyr this morning between 7.00am and 7.45am and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
