A man in his mid-20s has been rushed to Cork University Hospital after being stabbed in the city yesterday evening.
Emergency Services were called to the scene on Grand Parade at around 7:30pm.
Garda Press told RedFM News that the man remains in a critical condition at CUH and investigations are ongoing.
Gardai have arrested a man in his early 20s who was brought to a Garda station in the city, where he is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The scene close to Daunt Square was preserved last night for a technical exam.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the assault to come forward, and for any road users and pedestrians who may have camera footage including dash cam to make this footage available to them.
