A man who forced his way into his neighbour's house in Dripsey and threatened to cut his throat and kill him - has been jailed for three years.
At sentencing today, 47-year old Brian O'Regan of Model Village, Dripsey said could not even comprehend what he did that night.
"Detective Garda Pat Prendergast told Cork Circuit Criminal Court that O'Regan assaulted his neighbour in May 2021, although they had "no previous contact".
Shortly after 8 o'clock on the evening of the 29th May, O'Regan was drunk and went to the home of the injured party.
The victim was present with his two children.
O'Regan pushed his way in and punched him in the mouth. He told him he was going to cut his throat.
The householder was fearful for his safety and the safety of his children and managed to push O'Regan out.
O'Regan made a 999 call at the height of the incident, said he had a hammer and a hatchet and was going to break the other man's jaw.
When Gardaí arrived at the scene, O'Regan had a knife in his hand and said he would stab any guard who came near him.
The Armed Support Unit was deployed and O'Regan eventually surrendering himself to Gardaí.
The injured party said the assault has left a deep mark on him and that he hopes to move out of the area.
O'Regan apologised to his neighbour and to the Gardaí.
Judge Dara Hayes said it was a shocking incident and sentenced him to a total jail time of three years.
