The father of a two week old baby girl has shrugged off the title of hero after he saved his elderly neighbour from a house fire in Mahon

24 year-old Kelvin Cassells was at home on Tuesday night with his two children including his new born daughter when he heard a commotion outside

When he went out he spotted his neighbour in his 60's trying to get out of the back of his house which was engulfed in flames

Speaking to RedFM News Kelvin says the man was overcome by smoke by the time he reached him

"He was at the back door already, but it was the smoke that was trapping him in. There was so much smoke there, it was too hard to get through without it dying down for a second. He was basically overcome by the smoke and the heat. He would have sustained some minor burns from all the ash and stuff burning but the good news is that he's okay, and he's in the hospital right now making a good recovery"
