Man who threatened to kill social worker receives ‘positive’ probation report

A man who threatened to kill a social worker due to her involvement in a court case where a young relative was taken into care is due before Cork District court again in September.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, made full admissions when arrested, expressed remorse for his actions and pleaded guilty to four charges.

The man initially made contact with the social worker on April 3rd, 2023, when he began waving his arms in her face in an angry manner outside the courthouse on Washington Street.

A month later he phoned the social worker and left a series of threatening messages, calling her a ‘liar’ and threatening to “blow her up.”

He warned that she had taken something from him and he was going to do the same to her

He also left two messages saying he would kill her.

The man, pleaded guilty to four offences including assault and persistent phone calls to the social worker without reasonable cause.

In court today, solicitor Daithi Ó Donnabháin said his client received a “positive” probation report.

The matter is due before the court again in September.
