A man who was adopted from Bessborough mother and baby home says he was one of the lucky ones after a nun saved him and his twin from being separated.

Paul Lynch and his twin brother Gerard were born in Sean Ross Abbey mother and baby home in Rosscrea before they were moved to Bessborough to be fostered and later adopted.

Paul who is now 55 years old and living in Bandon began his search for his biological family and found out he was one of 7 children who were put into the home after their parents were facing financial difficulty.

Speaking to RedFM News, Paul says a nun named Sister Norbid ensured him and his twin brother weren’t separated but still wants someone to apologise for what happened to him:

"I want to be listened to, we were there, an apology would be greatly respected, we weren't shown any respect, bar from the nun who looked after us she did, as I said we were the lucky ones. It's about listening to us and showing us respect."
