Management at the Mercy University Hospital are reminding listeners that they are experiencing high volumes of people at their Emergency Department due to a surge in Covid-19, flu and the winter vomiting bug
The ED remains open 24/7 however patients will continue to experience long delays so as a result the hospital is appealing to the members of the public needing less urgent treatment to avail, where possible, of other care services.
Patients with less urgent complaints are advised to contact their GPs in the first instance, or to present at the Local Injury Unit, in Gurranabraher, which is open from 8am to 6pm.
The public are reminded that South Doc is also an option for those seeking medical attention outside of working hours.
The request comes as the latest trolley watch figures show that there are 71 people waiting on trolleys at Cork University Hospital making it the second most overcrowded hospital in the country for the second day running, 19 are on trolleys at the Mercy and 3 at Bantry General
