The manager of a city nightclub says longer opening hours for the hospitality sector could mean quieter streets when clubs close.
John Styles from Riordan's on Washington Street is one of many in the sector who are advocating for pubs and nightclubs to be allowed to stay open later.
The Give-Us-The-Night campaign say customers should be able to order a drink up to 3:30am.
Speaking to RedFM News, John Styles outlines how staggered pub and club closing times could lead to less trouble on the streets:
"I think as long as we don't have 6,000 people spilling over onto the streets at two o'clock in the morning is the problem. That's an issue when you get that volume of people gathering and there's alcohol on board. You know, you're going to have incidences. If we spread it out from 2 to 4 o'clock in the morning, I think people will be able to get cabs home, 24-hour busses and exiting the town should work better. At the moment, they just want to get everybody out of the venues and out of town as soon as they can."
