A memorial service will be held on Saturday for a Canadian man who died in the Ironman competition in Youghal.

Ivan Chittenden lost his life on the 20th of August when he died participating in the swimming leg of the race.

Ivan Chittenden was 64 years old when he died during the swimming section of the triathlon.

A ‘celebration of life' for Ivan is scheduled for next Saturday afternoon at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre in Toronto.

A cremation service previously took place in the Rocky Island Crematorium in Co Cork in the aftermath of the tragedy.

An online tribute says that Ivan was a long-time runner who became an endurance athlete in his early fifties.

Brendan Wall also died during the event in Youghal.

The 45-year-old who died in a separate incident in the swimming leg of the race was laid to rest on the 24th of August.

Investigations into both deaths in the Ironman Competition are ongoing.
