Men in same-sex partnerships are less likely to report domestic violence.

The Cork Domestic Violence Resource Centre says gay and bisexual men can experience the same amount of abuse and control in their intimate relationships as heterosexual women.

Head of the Reach Out project Dr. Angela O’Connell told RedFM News domestic violence doesn’t just exist in heterosexual partnerships:

"A lot of men said they never thought about their own experiences in terms of intimate partner abuse because they had always associated domestic violence with heterosexual couples and physical violence with a big man beating up a woman, but when this research started and they started to think about it a bit more, they did realise some of what they had experienced, that it is abusive behaviour."
