The weather warning comes into effect from 6pm and also covers counties Kerry and Galway
A wind warning also comes into effect in the north west of the country this afternoon
Mark Bowe of Met Eireann says they predict those winds could gust up to 100 km per hour:
"Across the country this afternoon we can already see outbreaks of rain for areas in the Northwest and associated with this weather feature, we do have some weather warnings in place. Now the first one is a yellow warning for wind for Donegal and Galway and that's for strong winds associated with this weather feature because gusts could be up to 100 kilometres an hour, and it's going from this afternoon right through to tonight. We also have a rain warning associated with this feature for cork, Kerry and also for Galway."
