A red alert for rain has been issued for Cork ahead of Storm Bert which is set to batter the country this weekend.
A Yellow low temperature and ice warning remains in place everywhere until midday today.
Met Eireann has just upgraded the rain warning from Orange to a Red alert for Cork and Galway from midnight tonight while a status yellow rainfall warning comes into effect from 10pm until midday tomorrow
Linda Hughes from Met Eireann says there is a chance of snow in some places
"This is going to be change of air mass, so we've been in this very cold arctic air mass over the past few days, so the rain is going to introduce milder air but the rain is moving into the cold air and what's going to happen is, it is going to turn to some sleet and snow, particularly across the Northwest and north"
