Met Eireann has issued two separate weather warnings for Cork and the rest of the country.
A status yellow gale warning has been issued for all coasts of Ireland and on the Irish Sea.
The warning came into effect at midnight and remains in place until noon tomorrow.
Force 8 gales are expected across the day, which are set to get up to force 9 in the southwest early on Friday.
Meanwhile hazardous conditions are expected later today due to snow and ice.
A Yellow alert comes into effect from 4pm for the entire country and is to remain in place until 11am tomorrow.
