Michéal Martin looks set to become Taoiseach in the coming hours following what’s being described as constructive talks between the leaders of the Opposition and Government.

A row over speaking rights in the Dáil appears to have been resolved, for now at least.

It appears we finally have white smoke and Michéal Martin will be elected Taoiseach will be elected in the coming hours.

It couldn’t happen yesterday following numerous rows across the chamber , with the Opposition angry at plans to allow four Independent Government supporting TD's to speak in the Opposition benches.

Now the Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy has sent an email to the Opposition saying this group won’t be recognized, for today at least, so a Taoiseach can be elected.

This seems to have appeased the leaders of the Opposition who held what’s being described as a constructive meeting with the Government leaders.

The Dáil is now set to resume at half eleven and all going well, the path appears to be cleared for Michael Martin to be elected Taoiseach.
