The Taoiseach has begun surveying the widespread damage caused by Russian shelling in Ukraine.
Micheál Martin is on the first official visit of a Taoiseach to the country, where he will visit the Ukrainian Parliament and meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He visited the town of Bucha earlier, where he was shown a mass grave.
Political Correspondent with the Irish Independent, Hugh O'Connell, says President Zelenskyy recently invited Micheal Martin to Ukraine:
The Taoiseach said at the time that he would keep the invitation under review. But in fact, it seems that work was was begun at that stage to organize this trip, which was really done under a shroud of secrecy. It wasn't apparent to anyone yesterday in Leinster House that he had departed for Ukraine."
