Migrant support group NASC are holding an information evening in the City tomorrow for anyone who is considering hosting refugees in their home.
Staff from NASC, Doras and the Irish Refugee Council will be at St Peter's on North Main Street to answer questions about the process of becoming a host and will talk about the services and supports available.
Around 40,000 Ukrainians have arrived here since the Russian invasion began in February, while hundreds of Afghan refugees also came to Ireland when the Taliban overthrew the government last year.
Speaking to RedFM News, Majo Rivas from NASC outlines how hosts can help:
"A lot of people are staying in hotels and hostels, in emergency accommodation for people who are fleeing war and who have gone through an awful lot to be able to be welcomed by your family, by someone in the community, someone who knows the ropes, where to get the bus, how to go to the library. It's the small things of being supported in the community. And of course even how to navigate systems that for you or for me might be very easy in terms of how to find a GP. All of these things are practical things that people who are hosting can definitely help with."
