The Minister for Higher Education says students should have their say when it comes to the running of UCC.

It comes as students have been camping out on the quad demanding that University College Cork cut ties with Israeli institutions as the war in Gaza continues.

UCC BDS says it’s currently in talks with college authorities.

Speaking to RedFM News, Minister for Higher Education, Patrick O’Donovan says Ireland's recognition of the state of Palestine this week is a step in the right direction:

"UCC is an autonomous organisation, and as a former student in UCC myself, the very first people that will remind any government minister of the autonomy of university with regard to what goes on in the university and quite rightly so will be the students themselves. But this is a good week I think in terms of Ireland's position with regard to international recognition of Palestine as a state".
