The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform is hoping to come to an agreement with the Workplace Relations Commission this month regarding wage increases
Minister Michael McGrath says he is in discussions with trade unions relating to updating an agreement surrounding public service pay
It comes as inflation in Ireland is reaching an all time high standing at 9.6%, leaving people all over Cork struggling with the cost of living
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM, the Minister welcomed the review of the agreement:
"We have an agreement at the moment that lasts to the end of this year. But it clearly needs to be updated, because of the level of inflation. It essentially provided for wage increases of about 3% over two years, though a higher rates of up to 5% for lower paid public servants. The union's, as is their right, triggered a review of that agreement because the underlying assumption at the time that it was framed was of a low inflation environment".
