The Minister for Transport says the long awaited M28 in Cork could open in 2028.

The Cork to Ringaskiddy Motorway was approved by cabinet this morning and will immediately progress to the construction phase.

The €456m project will replace the current N28 as well as allow the transfer of Port of Cork activities from Tivoli to Ringaskiddy.

Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien says the motorway will take 3 years to build once the contract is awarded:

"It's a very important project and what the decision means today is that we can move forward with TII and award contracts for the Cork to Ringaskiddy road which is a major investment for infrastructure."
