It's emerged the taxpayer will have to be pay more money to allow the Cork Events Centre dream be realised
€57 million has already been pledged in State Aid for the project which was first announced back in 2016
Since the sodturning ceremony the proposed 6,000 seat venue on South Main Street has been beset with delays and funding issues
The exact amount of extra funding needed has not yet been revealed with Cork City Council to make a recommendation on the additional state funding within weeks
Speaking to RedFM News Local Councillor Mick Finn says it's time the public saw shovels in the ground
"It's very frustrating for us as councillors, for Cork people in general to see such a major project being stalled and so many times. But if it started in Quarter One next year, I think that will be forgotten and we would just press ahead with it. I would support extra money being put into it and I would call on the Government to take it from your corporation tax reserves. You know, not to put everything away for a rainy day and to invest in the future of Cork"
