A university in Cork has secured an interim High Court injunction to prevent the sale, publication and possession of any data that was stolen when its IT system was hacked on Monday.
Munster Technological University, formerly known as CIT, appeared before the court last evening.
In a statement issued this morning, the university say they have hired specialists to closely monitor the internet for any possible leaks of the stolen data.
Forensic investigators are working to establish what, and how much, personal data has been removed from MTU systems.
MTU says the court order is one of a number of measures being taken to mitigate the consequences of the hack, and that they will seek to enforce the court injunction "as far as possible".
They say they are deploying all available resources, with the support of external forensic advisers and the National Cyber Security Centre, to investigate and mitigate the matter.
In a statement to RedFM News, a Garda spokesperson says Gardaí at Togher are involved in the investigation.
The university is warning student, staff and all possible affected users to be extra wary of potential attacks by email, SMS or other unsolicited communications.
