MTU Student's Union President is leading calls for more supports to be provided to make third level education more affordable
Richard Noonan has welcomed comments by the Higher Education Minister in relation to a reduction in college fees next year but says more can be done
A meeting will be held with students and colleges on Thursday to discuss other options to make college more affordable.
Speaking to RedFM News Richard Noonan Says supports around accommodation and travel would help to alleviate costs and reduce drop out figures:
"Supports in regards to students who are paying for accommodation or supports for students who are travelling a long way to go to college. And if these supports were in place as well I feel like it would go a long way towards supporting students. So it's coming to a point where students are not able to go to college as a result. Or they're able to go to college but the financial aspect being a massive barrier."
