A contractor has been appointed to carry out upgrades on a dangerous stretch of the N73 Mallow to Mitchelstown road.
The County Council are in talks with the contractor, Sorenson, about a commencement date for the works between Clogher Cross and Waterdyke.
Hundreds of truck drivers staged a slow-drive protest last September, describing the road as "an accident waiting to happen".
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork East TD Seán Sherlock says he's delighted to see progress on the project:
"It's really significant that we've reached this point after a long campaign by many people. The stretch of road is very dangerous - the stretch of road between Clogher cross and Waterdyke so this is a really significant day. We now know that Cork County Council are in talks with the contractor about a commencement date. So there is a budget there, the contractor has been appointed, the tender has been accepted. So we're that bit closer now to getting the diggers and the shovels in the ground to make this road safe".
