A new five-year plan to increase tourism in Cork has highlighted the lack of a major ‘pull factor’ in the area.

The plan developed by Fáilte Ireland, both local authorities and tourism and hospitality groups says a visitor experience in the redeveloped Cork Docklands would act as a major attraction in the city.

The plan also calls for a world-class harbour experience to take advantage of the largest natural harbour in the northern hemisphere.

Speaking to RedFM News, CEO of Fáilte Ireland Paul Kelly says the overall plan is very ambitious and outlines one major element of it:

"We do see when we look at other world class destinations like San Francisco and Chicago where they have leverage their harbor and their waterside facility. We believe that we can unlock that in Cork that are will really make a huge difference to tourism in the area."
