A tech company owner who lives in a flood prone East Cork town has set up a warning alert service for flooding.
Residents in Midleton who struggle to sleep at night because of floods brought by Storm Babet in 2023 can now sign up to receive a text when there is a possibility of flooding.
Colin James, set up the alert service which is similar to a Government implemented system in his native New Zealand.
Speaking to RedFM News, Colin says he felt it was vital for his neighbours who live in fear of flooding to have proper warning:
"It's an early warning system which basically identifies patterns and notifies via text message. I was verry blessed I wasn't affected by the flood at all, but obviously my neighbours around me were badly affected. There's a lot of people that continue to be affected, not only the physical impact but the mental impact as well."
Residents can sign up to the alert system by downloading the app “Town Crier”
