The Organisation of Ex-Service Personnel has refurbished the old Social Welfare office on Harbour Row in Cobh.
It has five new en-suites and a day centre to serve the town, which is next to the Haulbowline naval base.
Ollie O'Connor, Chief Executive of the charity, says the generous support of the public keeps it going -- but more will be needed next year:
"It's expensive to run the homes. We have two veteran support officers as well, to do all of that, it's expensive. The cost around a million euro a year We'd be looking at 1.4 million probably next year you know. So we get some funding from both the government and Dublin regional homeless executives. A good, I'd say, two thirds of our funding is from the general public."
