The Education Minister is being urged to apologise to members of the travelling community after a North Cork study found that children are being marginalised in classrooms
The Travellers of North Cork report, undertaken by Dr. Patricia McGrath from UCC, found some schools are still segregating children into Traveller-only classrooms.
It also uncovered that early school leaving is encouraged, with some teachers actively encouraging children to leave school once they hit the legal age of 16.
Senator Eileen Flynn says the report shows that travellers are still experiencing unacceptable levels of inequality
Speaking to RedFM News she says there should be no barriers to education for Traveller children
"Cork s not unique, this is happening, up and down the country, and even access for young Traveller children. While these reports are sad, very sad in 2023 Ireland, it's probably something we needed to hold the Minister to account"
