New Scheme To Help People In Cork With Disabilities To Use Public Transport Independently Launched Today

A new scheme to help people in Cork with disabilities use public transport was launched today.

Bus Éireann and the National Transport Authority have extended TFI Travel Assistance Scheme to Cork, beginning on Thursday, the 1st September.

The scheme is for anyone with disabilities, or has additional needs, and wants to use Bus Éireann, Irish Rail and soon Local Link Cork services, on their own.

An assistant helps the passenger plan their journey and accompanies them as they travel until they are familiar with the route.

The Scheme has been in Dublin since 2008.

The service is free of charge.

According to the most recent Census, 18.1% of the population of Cork city are living with a disability - the highest percentage in the state.
