A new Stroke Unit at Cork University Hospital was opened today.
CUH is already one of two national stroke thrombectomy centres, and the busiest inpatient stroke service in the country.
It's anticipated that the new stroke unit will care for roughly 1,200 patients per year.
It will also serve as a regional stroke thrombectomy centre for patients across Munster and the South of Ireland and will run 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
The newly refurbished and designed stroke unit has 31 beds and is to be run by approximately 26 staff members.
