A new support centre in the city says their mission is to improve the quality of life of stroke survivors and their families.
The Cork Stroke Support Centre was set up in 2010 but has only recently secured a facility in Blackrock.
The centre is being officially launched by Lord Mayor Cllr Colm Kelleher tomorrow to coincide with World Stroke Day.
Liam Kelleher from Inniscarra suffered a stroke while he was out cutting timber in November 2017, which left him partially paralysed and unable to talk.
He told RedFM News that it was the scariest experience of his life:
"I can remember leaning over a wall and not feeling well. And two months later I woke up in a hospital. I was in a coma for six weeks, I think, but the first recollection I have is coming up to Christmas. It happened me in November. I couldn't talk to explain anything, I had tubes in my nose to breath, couldn't eat, couldn't swallow. I was basically a write-off. My family were told, if I survived, I'd be a vegetable so was a DNR put on me: Do Not Resuscitate."
