Only 17 women are currently elected to Cork County Council out of 55, and in Cork City only 6 out of 31 Councillors.
Women for Election are continuing it's partnership with Cork City Council to provide training and support to women who want to run for election.
Caitríona Gleeson, CEO of Women for Election said: ‘While May 2024 may seem far away for many of us, for anyone considering running for Local Elections, now is the time to get involved. Our trainings are aimed for every woman, whether they want to find out more about politics, support a woman to run, explore what it means to run, or re-run for election, we have something for everybody.’
Paul Moynihan, Director of Corporate Affairs & International Relations, Cork City Council stated: “We are delighted to partner with Women for Election for the final part of the ‘More Women for Election in Cork’ programme in City Hall. This workshop will provide the women of Cork interested in politics and activism with the tools to face their fears, overcome obstacles, recognise their own power, and take their place in a gender-equal Council Chamber.”
