A family run nursing home in North Cork, which has been operating since 1988, is to close its doors due to a number of "significant challenges".
Management at Strawhall Nursing home in Fermoy described it as a "sad day" as they made the 'difficult' decision to close.
In an online statement, management at the home say the decision was not taken lightly, however the viability of their small family run nursing home is now facing a number of significant challenges which they say unfortunately they cannot overcome.
They thanked their staff, residents and local community and say during the difficult transition they will work with residents, staff and families to manage the process with integrity and care.
The closure comes as Nursing Homes Ireland is warning of "more closures in the weeks and months to come," as a number of nursing homes have been in touch with the organisation about closing their doors due to rising costs and lack of long-term funding.
