The National Transport Authority say they are open to reconsidering plans to run part of a proposed BusConnects route through a wooded area in Douglas.
The plan to build a 20 metre wide bridge through Ballybrack Woods, known locally as the Mangla has proven controversial in the community, with calls for one of the only wooded areas of Douglas to be protected.
Public consultation is now underway and the NTA are asking people to share their views on the designs and proposals.
They will also be holding a series of Community Forums to discuss the proposed routes beginning from Monday the 12th of September,
Local councillor Shane O'Callaghan organised a meeting between Hugh Cregan from the NTA and members of Douglas Tidy Towns yesterday so locals could raise their concerns about the plan.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr O'Callaghan outlines the result of that meeting:
"In fairness to Mr. Cregan he listened to our concerns, and he indicated that the the NTA was willing to reconsider the proposed bridge over the Mangla. He also confirmed that the NTA was not wedded to the idea of a bridge and that bus connects would work without the bridge. I think those commitments represent a significant step forward in terms of ensuring that the the bridge the proposed bridge over the Mangla will not happen."
