A number of people on bench warrants were arrested yesterday in Cork City during the course of a Garda operation.
Checkpoints were set up by Gardaí on the South Link Road and on the North Ring Road yesterday morning, which resulted in the identification and subsequent arrest of 16 people.
The Echo report that the checkpoints were part of operation Thor’s winter phase, with detective branch members, members of road policing, members of the armed support unit and customs all taking part in the collaborartive effort.
The crackdown was designed to help prevent burglaries at Christmas time, with the hours of between 5 and 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the most likely times for burglaries to take place during winter.
