The number of pubs closing around the country has fallen
Figures released by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland last year showed that 2,054 pubs stopped trading in Ireland since 2005
There are 31% fewer pubs across Cork city and county than 20 years ago with the rate of closures accelerating during the Covid pandemic
However, newly elected President of the Vintners Federation of Ireland Cork Publican Michael O'Donovan told RedFM News last year saw the fewest pub closures since 2018
"Most of the pubs now that have survived Covid, survived so far in the cost of living crisis, you know, they've invested into their product. Over the last eighteen months, we have seen the footfall coming back into pubs, reportedly, as you know, starting to increase again. so that's a great sign"
