The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has accused the HSE of putting financial controls ahead of the delivery of safe patient care

It comes as healthcare workers have voted in favour of industrial action over concerns about a 'staffing crisis'.

The INMO says over 2-thousand nursing and midwifery posts were left unfilled last year and have been staging lunchtime protests to highlight the issue

Colm Porter of the INMO says an overwhelming majority voted in favour of industrial action which demonstrates the strength feeling on the matter

"It reflects the experience of our members, and most importantly is the frustrations and the challenges that that they're facing every day at work. So the number one priority for nurses and midwives is to deliver safe patient care, and the ballot outcome shows that they're no longer willing to do more while getting less and less"
