Sweeping new laws to tackle knife crime are set to be introduced, including a ban on so-called 'zombie knives.'

The weapons are inspired by horror films, and are said to do more damage when being removed, than being inserted.

While a new offence of carrying a knife 'with intent' will be introduced, bringing with it a jail term of up to 10 years.

Minister for State for Justice James Browne has told the Sunday Independent he also wants to introduce a minimum age of 16 to purchase a knife.
