Official figures on the number of serious injuries caused by road accidents may have been significantly understated.
Statistics provided by Gardaí detailed how just over 10 thousand people were hurt in collisions between 2014 and 2022. Those numbers were logged as the official total.
However the RSA says when those figures are combined with hospital data, the number of people hurt rises to over 18,000.
According to the Irish Independent there was a 'significant' difference in the number of cyclists recorded as being injured in road collisions.
