The HSE is to roll out a measles catch up programme as five cases have been confirmed in Ireland so far this year

Covid lockdowns and vaccination fatigue are among some of the reasons why vaccination rates in Ireland is below the recommended rate

Speaking to RedFM News Cork GP Dr John Sheehan says measles is one of the most contagious diseases

"One case of measles will spread to about 15 people in an unvaccinated population, by contrast, COVID was spread one to two and flu was  spread one to two, so it's really, really a very contagious condition and that's why the HSE are launching this campaign today, which is very welcome"
