The final design for the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme is expected to be completed by the summer and go for public consultation at the end of this year

The Office of Public Works was responding to some criticism around the length of time being taken to bring the plan to fruition

€13 million euro has been spent on Cork's flood defence project since 2017 yet the city remains at risk of flooding

The OPW says the money has been spent on the design and consultation of the project along with significant enhancements to the original plan

The project is expected to cost €200 million and when complete will protect 900 homes and 1200 businesses from flooding
