The organiser of a protest march in the city centre today says trying to access disability services for children in Cork is a constant struggle.
Rebecca O’Riordan from Douglas was speaking at one of three ‘Make A Fuss’ events in the country this morning.
Rebecca says the HSE and government need to implement a plan to tackle long waiting lists for assessments and therapies and do more to halt a recruitment and retention crisis in the public disability services sector.
Campaigners are also calling for the Progressive Disability Services plan to be scrapped, describing it as a ‘failure’ that has made the situation “worse than it ever was before.”
Speaking to RedFM News at today’s protest, Rebecca O’Riordan says the Taoiseach needs to meet with parents:
"We have some of the highest ranking politicians in Cork. And where's the Taoiseach? Where is he consistently on this issue? We see him responding to Minister's questions. We do not see him in attendance. We do not see him sitting down at the table to talk to parents. And that's what he needs to do. This is his constituency. These issues are happening. Where is our Taoiseach?"
