One of the organisers of today's hospital protest outside Cork University Hospital says that the blame for the crisis in the Irish health system lies squarely at the feet of the government.
A National Day of Hospital Protests is taking place across the country today to highlight the overcrowding crisis in Emergency Departments.
Protests will also take place at 17 other hospitals nationwide
Speaking to RedFM News, the Aontu Rep for Cork North-West, Becky Kealy says the health service has not grown to match Ireland's population:
"You just have to look at the system. It's built to serve 3.5 million people when there's actually 5.5 million now living in the state, because we've seen years of cuts and underfunding, especially after the Banking Crisis. We have 6,000 fewer hospital beds than we did in 2008. We have 200 few ICU beds, and we have 30% too few GPs and there are 700 missing consultants in the health system".
