Over 1.100 patients were treated on trolleys, chairs or in other inappropriate bed space at Cork University Hospital last month.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show that CUH was the second most overcrowded hospital in the country, behind University Hospital Limerick.

Nationally the overall figure for October stands at 10,515, a 9% increase on the same month in 2023.
