Around 300 pubs in Cork are at risk of closing their doors this winter due to rising energy costs.

It comes following the reopening of pubs in January this year, after almost 2 years of closures during the pandemic.

Publicans are seeing electricity and oil bills skyrocket, meaning they could be forced to close or run on reduced opening hours.

Chairperson of the Cork branch of the Vinteners’ Federation of Ireland, Michael O’Donovan warned in June that the price of a pint could go up in order for pubs to stay open.

Speaking to RedFM News, owner of Farrell's Bar in Youghal, Michael Farrell says pub owners are very fearful about the coming winter.
