Over €100,000 has been raised to help a 22 year old Cork man with terminal cancer to afford further treatment.

Garreth Blount from Mayfield was diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer at the start of the year while he was living in Spain.

Garreth returned to Ireland and was treated with surgery and chemotherapy, however last week he found out that the cancer has reappeared and can't be operated on.

His brother Jordan set up a GoFundMe on Wednesday to fund immunotherapy treatment in an effort to give Garreth the best chance of living beyond the next four months.

Twelve doses of the treatment cost €84,000 and is not currently funded by the government, however it could allow Garreth to live for another year.

Speaking to RedFM News, Jordan Blount says people's generosity is greatly appreciated.

"There are a lot of people in there that I don't know, there are a lot of people that I've never seen before.

"There are a lot of basketball people, the majority of the basketball community.

"This weekend my club Neptune, we sell out every game, we get anywhere between 1,600 to 2,000 people at a game, they're donating their gate receipts from the game, as are Brunell."
